What is an IMEI number?
Without getting too techincal. Every device has a unique IMEI number attached to it (International Mobile Equipment Identity).
This 15 digit long number is unique to your device. Every phone or iPhone that has ever been made has an IMEI number attached to it by its manufacturer. It is a relatively simple way to identify a device. It is also used by companies to lock a device to a specific network.
We can use an IMEI number to find information on a device such as Manufacturer, Warranty Status, Original network carrier, Locked status, and if it has been blacklisted or reported lost/stolen.

How to find your IMEI number?
There are various ways to find your IMEI number but this article will show you 4 easy ways:
- Dial *#06# to get IMEI code.
- Check in phone settings.
- Check behind the battery or on the sim card tray.
- Check on the box your cell phone came in.
These methods work for iPhone and Android devices such as an iPhone 11 Pro Max or a Samsung Galaxy S10+.

Finding your IMEI on an iPhone
- Go into your iPhone Settings > General and tap About.
- You might need to scroll down to find the IMEI/MEID and ICCID.

Go to Settings > About Phone > Status to find out information such as mobile number, IMEI and network. This works for most Android phones.
HTC and Huawei devices show the IMEI on this menu, and others like Samsung and Sony require you to click to view details. It’s generally not that difficult to find.
Nearly all the flagship phones these days feature a glass back that cannot be removed. Before that you could remove the back and pop out the battery. Behind that was a little sticker that featured the devices IMEI.
All smart phone packaging will also feature a lovely little sticker that details all the information you need about your new device. Including its IMEI. Like most people this option may not be available anymore. Not many people keep the original boxes for 2 years or more.
